1. Open the Questions tab

  1. From your dashboard, click the title of the survey you want to look at.
  2. Navigate to the Questions tab at the top of the survey dashboard.
  3. Select any question from the list to open its results.

Your filter sidebar collapses automatically as soon as you open a question, giving you the full screen for your results.

2. Find the question you need

You've got four ways to get to the right question. Use whichever suits.

  1. Search — type any word from the question into the search box at the top of the question list.
  2. Scroll — browse the list in survey order.
  3. Sort by score — sort high to low to find your strongest questions, or low to high to find where you need to focus.
  4. Filter the list — narrow the list down by:
    • Question type — scale, eNPS, multiple choice, free text, results segmentation
    • Comments — enabled or disabled
    • Answer required — yes or no
    • Survey text — show or hide

Tip: Click Show previews to display the average score and question category against every question in the list. Combined with sort by score, it's the fastest way to find what matters.

3. Change or reapply your filters

  1. Click the expand arrow on the collapsed filter sidebar.
  2. Select the attributes and segments you want to apply.
  3. Click the arrow again to collapse the sidebar and return to your full-width results.

Your filters stay applied as you move between questions, so you can set your view once — a single department, for example — and then work through every question for that group.

Remember: if a group you've filtered to is too small, a message will appear in place of the results. This protects individual confidentiality.

4. Read a scale question

Open any scale question and work down the page:

  1. Average score — your headline number, with a marker showing where it sits on the 0–10 scale and which band it falls into (negative, slightly negative, moderate or positive).
  2. Score distribution — how many people chose each point on the scale. Look for whether responses cluster together or split into two camps.
  3. Percentage favourable — the proportion of people who answered favourably (6–10), neutrally (5) or unfavourably (0–4).

5. Break a question down by segment

  1. Go to Breakdown by segment on the question page.
  2. Select the attribute you want to compare by — department, location, length of service, or any bespoke attribute your organisation uses.
  3. Compare across the segments shown:
    • Average score
    • Percentage favourable
    • Response rate

Response rate matters here. A low score from a group where hardly anyone responded tells you something different to a low score where nearly everyone did.

6. See a score over time

  1. Scroll to Score over time on the question page.
  2. Choose your view — full scale to see the score in the context of the whole 0–10 range, or zoomed in to see small movements clearly.
  3. Hover over any data point to see more detail about that survey, or to remove it.
  4. Remove any survey you don't want in the comparison. This affects your view only.
  5. Overlay a line to help you read the pattern:
    • Trend — a line of best fit through your scores. Sloping up means improving; sloping down means sliding.
    • Average — the overall average across every survey shown. Points above scored better than usual; points below scored worse.

The graph covers surveys from the last three years.

7. Read an eNPS question

  1. Start with the NPS score, from -100 to +100, and the band it falls into (concerning, typical, very good or outstanding).
  2. Look at the breakdown into promoters (9–10), passives (7–8) and detractors (0–6). Two organisations can share a score and have completely different stories underneath it.
  3. Break down by attribute to see which groups are driving your score.
  4. Check the trend graph to see whether your score is moving, using the same controls as scale questions.

8. Read a multiple choice question

  1. View the answer distribution — the share of responses for each option.
  2. Choose your chart type — bar chart, donut ring or radar.
  3. Choose which labels you want displayed on the chart.
  4. To compare groups, use Breakdown by segment and switch between segments to view an individual chart for each one.

9. Read a free-text question

  1. Start with sentiment analysis to understand the overall tone — how positive or negative the comments read.
  2. Review keyword frequency to see which words and phrases are coming up most often.
  3. Use the segment breakdown to view sentiment for each segment within an attribute, and spot where one group's experience differs from another's.

Access to comments depends on your permissions.

10. Read a results segmentation question

  1. Open the question to see an overview of which options were offered to your people.
  2. To use their answers as filters, expand the filter sidebar and scroll to Survey-specific filters at the bottom.
  3. Select the options you want and apply — the whole survey dashboard will filter to those respondents.

11. Create or view an action

If your organisation has Hive Actions enabled:

  1. Pin a question you want to return to.
  2. Click to create an action directly from the question you're viewing.
  3. Review the AI-powered suggested actions the platform recommends for that result.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the question page to see any existing actions attached to it that you own, follow or contribute to.

12. Download a question to PDF

  1. Open the question you want to share.
  2. Set your view — filters, chart type, trend overlays — exactly as you want it.
  3. Click Print.
  4. Save or download as PDF.

The download captures the results section for that single question, ready to drop into a report or presentation.

FAQs

Do my filters reset when I move to another question? No. Your filters stay applied as you move through the question list.

Can I download every question at once? The download works on a single question at a time, capturing the results section for the question you're viewing.

How do I get back to the full question list? The question list stays visible in the middle panel while you're viewing results — just select another question.

I sorted by score but some questions have no score? Free-text and results segmentation questions don't produce a score, so they won't be ranked in the same way.

Why can't I see results segmentation questions? Visibility depends on your permissions. Speak to your Hive administrator if you think you should have access.
